Mayor Miller Commits Suicide - OneontaNOW Officially Retires

Oneonta City Mayor Richard Miller III was found dead in his garage last Saturday morning.

His death was a result of a self-inflicted .22-caliber gunshot to the head, according to Otsego County Coroner James Hurley.

The situation is extremely unfortunate and sad.

Out of respect for Miller, his family and loved ones, we are officially retiring Oneonta NOW.

The original purpose of this blog was to act as a watchful eye over the city's elite, specifically when Dick Miller first took office back in 2010.

While we have certainly been the first to cover a number of backdoor dealings and corrupt actions dedicated to the city's elected officials, we challenge other community residents to take up arms and serve as a voice for the voiceless.

We never embellished details, reframed from using particular facts or lied to create more interesting stories and hope that whoever takes on the next community journal will do the same.

Certainly a number of articles dedicated to the late Mayor Miller were not designed to portray him in a positive light. Not because of a particular agenda, but because he in fact took specific actions that significantly affected Oneonta, its resources, and its people.

However, under the circumstances, we do wish the absolute best for Miller's family and friends.
