Otsego County Treasurer Dan Crowell returned from a nine month active duty deployment with the U.S. Army Reserves, eight days before next week's general election.

While Crowell originally intended to not run for re-election, his replacement Russ Bachman was kicked off the ballot over allegations of forged and duplicate signatures collected during his nominating petition campaign.

Crowell's opponent Edward Keator Jr. took the county treasurer's return as an opportunity to continue to avoid him by not participating in a public debate.

"Just because Mr. Crowell comes back to town at the eleventh hour doesn't mean we all need to drop everything for him," Keator said.

"The voters know where I stand."

This perspective is interesting because it is exactly the type of attitude and strategy that Mayor Dick Miller took when he ran in 2009 against Republican Erik Miller and Democrat/Independent Jason Corrigan.

Both Miller and Corrigan were invited to participate in a number of community forums from speaking in at Oneonta High School to holding a public 'meet and greet' at The Foothills Performing Arts Center.

When Miller and Corrigan tried to include Dick into the fray, he responded by holding "press conferences" (only one source of media in this town Dicky Boy) in the living room of his own home.

His excuses for not participating in any form of public communication included the idea that Erik and Jason would "ambush" him by planting audience members in the crowd to ask "difficult" questions.

Instead, he allowed Kim Muller and John Nader to do all of the dirty work, canvassing the streets, knocking on doors and asking voters to fall in love with the 66-year-old candidate whose only platform was that he "loved" the community.

This copout attitude is completely, absolutely, positively BULLSHIT.

Frankly, Keator and Dick Miller are pussies who don't give a fuck about the people in the community, otherwise they would act like men with a set of balls and speak to the people they "love" so much!

Dick is "running" for a second four-year term uncontested. Even still, he has not held any community events or public forums to speak with Oneonta's citizens.

The reason why?

HE DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ONEONTA.
